I was given my first ‘real’ camera in the third grade.  My dad wouldn’t buy me an automatic camera.  He told me I had to learn how to make the camera do what I want.    That was my Minolta 35mm with a fixed 50mm lens.  Strong as a tank, and still clicking away (when we shoot film).

I was an avid amatuer photographer for fun and amusement.  When I got to college, I joined the yearbook staff just to have access to the darkroom.  Many nights were lost amidst the fixer and red light glow.  I learned the art of editing in that room.  My background in drawing and the human form add to the skills needed for retouching.  My years in theatrical lighting and design were an easy segue to off-camera lighting.

I am self-trained, 30+ years of hands on experimentation augmented with professsional development from Professional Photographers of America, Roswell Photographic Society, Showcase School of Photography, and many hours apprenticing and ‘second shooting’ with professionals has given me an extraordinary education.

Portraits should evoke an emotion, a time, a place, a smile.  There is no greater reaction from a client than, “I look beautiful!”  Or the smile that spreads across their face as they experience each print, one by one. Photography is a tangible experience.  The digital world merely allows images to be ported more easily.  The physcial print, framed image, or gallery wrap that hangs in your home or office is just as much a piece of artwork as any other you may select for your environment.  Let’s work to capture and create that moment in time, for you to enjoy on your own and with others.

Samantha’s professional career includes network administration, non-profit management, and currently web-content management and photography for an independent school.  She has an MBA in International Business, a dual BA in Political Science and International Affairs, and an AA in Liberal Arts.

She is married to her husband, Todd, who himself is an avid photographer and afficianado and collector of cameras.  Todd often accompanies Samantha on photo-shoots as a second-shooter.
